Characteristics of a Christian Woman

The Garden of Eden was paradise abounding with everything a man like Adam could ever need. But it wasn’t complete until God created the woman.

God made the woman to be the most suitable helper for the man. Today, women hold significant roles in the different aspects of life. The woman can be an ideal wife to her husband. She can be a caring mother to her children. She can even run a country. The woman can also be a great aid in church growth.

In order for her to achieve such, she must have certain traits.

MODEST

Modesty also means being decent. Decency in a woman can be manifested in clothing and in speech. Apostle Paul gave this advice to the women in his time.

“In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works.” – I Timothy 2:9-10

Women in the church need not jibe with the fashion of the world. Daughters of God only need to dress moderately. In the same way, Christian women should not be malicious talkers. Women in the church who live in modesty are women who are worthy of men’s respect and of God’s recognition.

DUTIFUL TO HER FAMILY

It is vital for a woman to be responsible to her family. The duties of a woman at home do not end with doing the household chores. These go beyond washing the dishes or doing the laundry. These include giving affection, attention, and time not only to the husband but also to the children.

In a Christian household, the wife must be submissive to her husband (Colossians 3:18). The husbands, in turn, must not be harsh but loving and respecting to their wives. A strong husband-wife relationship is bound by love.Christian mothers love and nurture their children. Children need special attention and care that not even the most expensive toy can give but only their mother can provide.

Responsible mothers rear their children. They don’t pass this obligation to others such as the housekeeper or even the grandparents.

The greatest gift that you could give your family is yourself!

AN EPITOME OF FAITH IN GOD

Elizabeth is an example of a woman of faith. She observed all of the Lord’s commandments and regulations faithfully (Luke 1:5-6). And so God’s favor was with her. She received grace from God through bearing a son who was filled with the Holy Spirit.

Women today in the church must be like Elizabeth. They should be the prime followers of the Words of God. Christian women are mindful of the concerns of the church, challenging the men and the youth alike in fruitful service for the Lord. The church will ultimately reach its growth because the women in the church are channels of blessings.

The woman who has these attributes in heart and mind is a treasure. She is the crown of her husband, the inheritance of her children, the wealth of a country, and the treasure of God.
